Children's Court Assistance Scheme
The Children's Court Assistance Scheme provides services to children in criminal matters only. It funds and monitors the performance of Children's Court Assistance Schemes serving seven locations in NSW. Trained youth workers provide information about court processes and work with young people and their families before, during and after their court appearance.
Aboriginal client service specialists
At various Children' Courts, Aboriginal Client Service Specialists are available to assist Aboriginal defendants, witnesses and victims of crime. The service assists communication between the court and the Aboriginal community.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service directory
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families involved in care proceedings may wish to engage non-government organisations for legal support. The Department of Communities and Justice has created a service directory that contains contact information for organisations that specialise in assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Salvation Army chaplains
Salvation Army chaplains visit some Children's Courts to support young people in trouble with the law and their families. They are also available to assist witnesses and victims of crime and their families.
Justice of the peace
If you require a document to be witnessed by a Justice of the Peace (JP), you may be able to find a JP service at some court houses. Alternatively, use the Find a JP service to locate a JP in your area.
